How to use this simulation

  1. Pick a substance in the Substance & temperature panel, then heat or cool it with the slider, the jump-to buttons, or by typing any temperature and pressing Go. Use the speed dropdown to control how fast it heats.
  2. Watch the particles and the readouts: Temperature, Pressure, and State update together as the substance melts, boils, and changes pressure.
  3. Change the container volume by dragging the lid on the scene, using the quick volume buttons, or the volume slider. Pushing the lid down compresses and warms the gas — the panel tells you when to cool back down before recording.
  4. Press Record this row to save the current substance, temperature, volume, and pressure as a row in the Your data table.
  5. Use the Graph your recorded points panel to plot your data and check the relationships between temperature, pressure, and volume.
  6. Press Reset to start over, Clear to wipe the table, or Copy data to copy your results for a spreadsheet.
